وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَقَفَّيْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ بِٱلرُّسُلِ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَا عِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَأَيَّدْنَـٰهُ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ ۗ أَفَكُلَّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِمَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُكُمُ ٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ فَفَرِيقًا كَذَّبْتُمْ وَفَرِيقًا تَقْتُلُونَ

ہم نے (حضرت) موسیٰ کو کتاب دی اور ان کے پیچھے اور رسول بھیجے اور ہم نے (حضرت) عیسیٰ ابن مریم کو روشن دلیلیں دیں اور روح القدس سے ان کی تائید کروائی۔ لیکن جب کبھی تمہارے پاس رسول وه چیز ﻻئے جو تمہاری طبیعتوں کے خلاف تھی، تم نے جھٹ سے تکبر کیا، پس بعض کو تو جھٹلادیا اور بعض کو قتل بھی کرڈاﻻ۔

And We did certainly give Moses the Scripture [i.e., the Torah] and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Pure Spirit [i.e., the angel Gabriel]. But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel], with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? And a party [of messengers] you denied and another party you killed.

وَقَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم بِعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْإِنجِيلَ فِيهِ هُدًى وَنُورٌ وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

اور ہم نے ان کے پیچھے عیسیٰ بن مریم کو بھیجا جو اپنے سے پہلے کی کتاب یعنی تورات کی تصدیق کرنے والے تھے اور ہم نے انہیں انجیل عطا فرمائی جس میں نور اور ہدایت تھی اور وه اپنے سے پہلے کی کتاب تورات کی تصدیق کرتی تھی اور وه سراسر ہدایت ونصیحت تھی پارسا لوگوں کے لئے۔

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.

ثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْإِنجِيلَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ رَأْفَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ٱبْتَدَعُوهَا مَا كَتَبْنَـٰهَا عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ رِضْوَٰنِ ٱللَّهِ فَمَا رَعَوْهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَا ۖ فَـَٔاتَيْنَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَـٰسِقُونَ

ان کے بعد پھر بھی ہم اپنے رسولوں کو پے در پے بھیجتے رہے اور ان کے بعد عیسیٰ بن مریم (علیہ السلام) کو بھیجا اور انہیں انجیل عطا فرمائی اور ان کے ماننے والوں کے دلوں میں شفقت اور رحم پیدا کردیا ہاں رہبانیت (ترک دنیا) تو ان لوگوں نے ازخود ایجاد کرلی تھی ہم نے ان پر اسے واجب نہ کیا تھا سوائے اللہ کی رضاجوئی کے۔ سو انہوں نے اس کی پوری رعایت نہ کی، پھر بھی ہم نے ان میں سے جو ایمان ﻻئے تھے۔ انہیں ان کا اجر دیا اور ان میں زیاده تر لوگ نافرمان ہیں.

Then We sent following their footsteps [i.e., traditions] Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allāh. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
