أَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَأَصْحَـٰبِ مَدْيَنَ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتِ ۚ أَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

کیا انہیں اپنے سے پہلے لوگوں کی خبریں نہیں پہنچیں، قوم نوح اور عاد اور ﺛمود اور قوم ابراہیم اور اہل مدین اور اہل مؤتفکات (الٹی ہوئی بستیوں کے رہنے والے) کی، ان کے پاس ان کے پیغمبر دلیلیں لے کر پہنچے، اللہ ایسا نہ تھا کہ ان پر ﻇلم کرے بلکہ انہوں نے خود ہی اپنے اوپر ﻇلم کیا۔

Has there not reached them the news of those before them - the people of Noah and [the tribes of] ʿAad and Thamūd and the people of Abraham and the companions [i.e., dwellers] of Madyan and the towns overturned? Their messengers came to them with clear proofs. And Allāh would never have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.

فَكُلًّا أَخَذْنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ حَاصِبًا وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ خَسَفْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

پھر تو ہر ایک کو ہم نے اس کے گناه کے وبال میں گرفتار کر لیا، ان میں سے بعض پر ہم نے پتھروں کا مینہ برسایا اور ان میں سے بعض کو زور دار سخت آواز نے دبوچ لیا اور ان میں سے بعض کو ہم نے زمین میں دھنسا دیا اور ان میں سے بعض کو ہم نے ڈبو دیا، اللہ تعالیٰ ایسا نہیں کہ ان پر ﻇلم کرے بلکہ یہی لوگ اپنی جانوں پر ﻇلم کرتے تھے.

So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allāh would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.

أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوٓا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَأَثَارُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَعَمَرُوهَآ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوهَا وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

کیا انہوں نے زمین پر چل پھر کر یہ نہیں دیکھا کہ ان سے پہلے لوگوں کا انجام کیسا (برا) ہوا؟ وه ان سے بہت زیاده توانا (اور طاقتور) تھے اور انہوں نے (بھی) زمین بوئی جوتی تھی اور ان سے زیاده آباد کی تھی اور ان کے پاس ان کے رسول روشن دﻻئل لے کر آئے تھے۔ یہ تو ناممکن تھا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ان پر ﻇلم کرتا لیکن (دراصل) وه خود اپنی جانوں پر ﻇلم کرتے تھے.

Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed [or excavated] the earth and built it up more than they [i.e., the Makkans] have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allāh would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.
