فَلَوْلَآ إِذْ جَآءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
سو جب ان کو ہماری سزا پہنچی تھی تو انہوں نے عاجزی کیوں نہیں اختیار کی؟ لیکن ان کے قلوب سخت ہوگئے اور شیطان نے ان کے اعمال کو ان کے خیال میں آراستہ کردیا۔
Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Satan made attractive to them that which they were doing.
وَكَم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا فَجَآءَهَا بَأْسُنَا بَيَـٰتًا أَوْ هُمْ قَآئِلُونَ
اور بہت بستیوں کو ہم نے تباه کردیا اور ان پر ہمارا عذاب رات کے وقت پہنچا یا ایسی حالت میں کہ وه دوپہر کے وقت آرام میں تھے۔
And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.
أَفَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتِيَهُم بَأْسُنَا بَيَـٰتًا وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
کیا پھر بھی ان بستیوں کے رہنے والے اس بات سے بے فکر ہوگئے ہیں کہ ان پر ہمارا عذاب شب کے وقت آپڑے جس وقت وه سوتے ہوں۔
Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep?
أَوَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتِيَهُم بَأْسُنَا ضُحًى وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
اور کیا ان بستیوں کے رہنے والے اس بات سے بےفکر ہوگئے ہیں کہ ان پر ہمارا عذاب دن چڑھے آپڑے جس وقت کہ وه اپنے کھیلوں میں مشغول ہوں۔
Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at play?
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ٱسْتَيْـَٔسَ ٱلرُّسُلُ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ كُذِبُوا۟ جَآءَهُمْ نَصْرُنَا فَنُجِّىَ مَن نَّشَآءُ ۖ وَلَا يُرَدُّ بَأْسُنَا عَنِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
یہاں تک کہ جب رسول ناامید ہونے لگے اور وه (قوم کے لوگ) خیال کرنے لگے کہ انہیں جھوٹ کہا گیا۔ فوراً ہی ہماری مدد ان کے پاس آپہنچی جسے ہم نے چاہا اسے نجات دی گئی۔ بات یہ ہے کہ ہمارا عذاب گناهگاروں سے واپس نہیں کیا جاتا.
[They continued] until, when the messengers despaired and were certain that they had been denied, there came to them Our victory, and whoever We willed was saved. And Our punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals.
