تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
یہ جماعت تو گزر چکی، جو انہوں نے کیا وه ان کے لئے ہے اور جو تم کرو گے تمہارے لئے ہے۔ ان کے اعمال کے بارے میں تم نہیں پوچھے جاؤ گے۔
That was a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.
تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
یہ امت ہے جو گزرچکی، جو انہوں نے کیا ان کے لئے ہے اور جو تم نے کیا تمہارے لئے، تم ان کےاعمال کے بارے میں سوال نہ کئے جاؤ گے۔
That is a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.
وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
تم میں سے ایک جماعت ایسی ہونی چاہئے جو بھلائی کی طرف بلائے اور نیک کاموں کا حکم کرے اور برے کاموں سے روکے، اور یہی لوگ فلاح ونجات پانے والے ہیں.
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.
۞ لَيْسُوا۟ سَوَآءً ۗ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ أُمَّةٌ قَآئِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ءَانَآءَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ
یہ سارے کے سارے یکساں نہیں بلکہ ان اہل کتاب میں ایک جماعت (حق پر) قائم رہنے والی بھی ہے جو راتوں کے وقت بھی کلام اللہ کی تلاوت کرتے ہیں اور سجدے بھی کرتے ہیں.
They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allāh during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer].
وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ أَقَامُوا۟ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِم مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ لَأَكَلُوا۟ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِم ۚ مِّنْهُمْ أُمَّةٌ مُّقْتَصِدَةٌ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ سَآءَ مَا يَعْمَلُونَ
اور اگر یہ لوگ تورات وانجیل اور ان کی جانب جو کچھ اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے نازل فرمایا گیا ہے، ان کے پورے پابند رہتے تو یہ لوگ اپنے اوپر سے اور نیچے سے روزیاں پاتے اور کھاتے، ایک جماعت تو ان میں سے درمیانہ روش کی ہے، باقی ان میں سے بہت سے لوگوں کے برے اعمال ہیں۔
And if only they had upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord [i.e., the Qur’ān], they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them are a moderate [i.e., acceptable] community, but many of them - evil is that which they do.
