وَتِلْكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا۟ وَجَعَلْنَا لِمَهْلِكِهِم مَّوْعِدًا
یہ ہیں وه بستیاں جنہیں ہم نے ان کے مظالم کی بنا پر غارت کردیا اور ان کی تباہی کی بھی ہم نے ایک میعاد مقرر کر رکھی تھی.
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.
أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ
کیا یہ لوگ بہتر ہیں یا تبع کی قوم کے لوگ اور جو ان سے بھی پہلے تھے۔ ہم نے ان سب کو ہلاک کردیا یقیناً وه گنہ گار تھے.
Are they better or the people of Tubbaʿ and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةً مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ
ہم نے کتنی بستیوں کو جو طاقت میں تیری اس بستی سے زیاده تھیں جس سے تجھے نکالا ہم نے انہیں ہلاک کر دیا ہے، جن کا مددگار کوئی نہ اٹھا.
And how many a city was stronger than your city [i.e., Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.
